5 guitarists that SHRED!!!!

(I am not one of them)

Solos that make me weep is more like it! But seriously, I love a good guitar riff and a long jam that has a ripple effect on my brain thereby causing me to bust out into “air guitar” mode!!!

These are the fab FIVE:

1) David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) the example song is DOGS (it’s stellar)

2) Adam Jones (Tool) the example song is “Schism” (holy crap is that a jam)

3) J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr) a prime example is anything from the album, “You’re Living All Over Me.” In such short songs he squeezes these unbelievable solos. He packs a punch!!!

4) Lou Reed (of Velvet Underground) R.I.P. This man destroys this improvised song called “Sister Ray!” Damn he has endurance!!!

5) Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) on “Dazed and Confused” played live in New York for the film THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME…he busts out a violin bow string and seems to never stop playing! (See clip below)

Amen to the great guitar Gods!!!!

Top Five Records To Save From A Burning Building

So these are five cd’s or vinyl records that I consider, at least the mood I am in right now, to be a few of my favorite ones. This list consists of albums that would make me cry if I lost them or got them stolen from me. I have played these records constantly. I would consider these to be currently my “desert island” discs.

1. Beck….Odelay (sampling masterpiece)
2. Black Sabbath….Paranoid (Original Heavy Metal Genius)
3. Beach Boys….Pet Sounds (So far ahead of its time)
4. Smashing Pumpkins….Siamese Dream (Listened to this one everyday after school in high school)
5. Neko Case….Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (I just listened to this one again a few hours ago…..it “ALWAYS” makes me cry…..because it’s that good!)

Daily Top Five

For the next few days I am going to post some “TOP FIVES.” For this Wednesday, I am going to cut right to the chase and list my top 5 favorite “rock bands of all time!” This wasn’t easy to decide but I thought about it long and hard. Here it goes:

5. The Flaming Lips
4. Tool
3. Led Zeppelin
2. The Beatles
1. Pink Floyd

So why these bands? Well I enjoy weird, poppy, heavy and psychedelic noises to the max baby! Sights and sounds from Pink Floyd just thrill me. The Beatles wrote a song for everybody. Led Zeppelin were a prime example of bluesy acid rock!! Tool are kings of industrial space rock with outstanding guitar riffs! And the Flaming Lips are absolutely FREAKS!! I love it man!!!!

What are yours?

May Child “Flower Power” Playlist

2581732

Yep….I drew that.

Isn’t it pretty?

It’s the month of May….and that means it’s time for those flowers to get here. Lots of snow and zero temps this past winter. It was long and cold. Some showers last month, but we could use more. Beginning this month with 85 degrees in Chicago tomorrow and then hopefully NOT dropping down into the 50’s again for awhile. But despite a weather forecast of some rain and dropped temperatures, I am hopeful that it’ll continue to get warmer and those flowers will pop up everywhere.

Here’s a playlist of happy, sunny, earthy, flower-related songs to get you through this glorious month of May!

This isn’t the only playlist I will post this month. My sister and I each celebrate our birthdays this month. So do several friends and family members. It’s the month of the Taurus and Gemini babies!!!

I will devote my next playlist to May birthday tunes…..for now enjoy this one:
