Favorite album from #1988 #Enya #Watermark

Its time to relax into a world of new age. Celtic and ambient music flows through me. Lots of great albums were released in 1988. But I chose Watermark by Enya. Why? This one is difficult to answer.

Beautiful painting of the artist graces the cover of the record.

Simply lovely piano instrumentals that glide with a calm majesty. They are emotional paintings in a museum of sound. It tugs at me with a sense of wonder.

The lush instrumentations. A flute breaks the silence in song. Deep contrast from the strings. It really does paint a distinct portrait of an exile.
Orinoco Flow became a #1 single and stands out with its plucked strings and vibrant sound. It evokes waterfalls, springs, and sailing into a wondrous fantasy-land. Sail away, sail away, sail away!
Storms In Africa  begins with a clap of thunder with grace. A few other tracks were even featured in the movie “L.A. Story.”  I always pay attention to soundtracks.

Wherever I was in my head during the late 80’s brought me to this music. I was at one of my dad’s Fire Department Christmas parties and someone was playing the cd of this album and I committed the title of the album to memory until I got home, wrote it down and checked it out from the library.

Love at first audio insight…

The proceeding post is from an ongoing list of albums that represent what I feel to be the forty greatest albums to be released in forty consecutive years in a row since the year I was born.

It is based on my education, obsessions and life experiences. Through friends, family and my obsessions I found inspiration. Some factors in determining these albums are:

  • I can listen to them numerous times.
  • Some of these artists have stand out performances.
  • Some are based on artist’s best albums, which fall into place with the year that they originated in.

Ultimately this ends up being the top forty albums in my humble opinion. Sometimes the artists pay tribute; other times it is just considered their peak performances. In many ways you could say that all years since 1976 are represented. But these are more than my just favorites, they are simply amazing albums and a sample of the best list I could think of that demonstrates the BIG 40 spectacular pieces of music in my lifetime, so far…
