The June Road Trip Playlist

219568087
Recently I chatted it up with close friends and relatives. I was thinking of an AWESOME playlist for this lovely month of June. It’s a good time to take a cruise around the block (especially if you’re a teenager), a long drive or a wizard cruise through the local towns (college students know what I’m talking about) and even undertake a voyage or ROAD TRIP!!!! Time to crank the tunes that are custom made for the car, the van, the truck, whatever your vehicle of choice is.

Just anything that rocks and pumps you up man!

I learned that we can agree on a number of things when it comes to these song choices on the road. First you gotta roll down the windows. The tunes should be associated with good memories, perhaps AWESOME memories! It all depends on where you are going. The right song at the right place is key. The music should enhance the trip and the scenery that is already there. You should turn your sad moments into HAPPY ones.

So I took a little poll. I looked over some of my previous mixes and playlists. I filled out a section of a book I have called “MUSIC LISTOGRAPHY” (go check it out) and for the purpose of this blog post, I developed a list of 25 essential songs (in my world) that can get you feeling alive in June. Classic Rock mixed with modern pop/rock/dance sounds!

Here they are (in absolutely no order):

1 Led Zeppelin….Over The Hills And Far Away
2 Pink Floyd…..One Of These Days
3 Grateful Dead…..Truckin

Top Ten of Ten #7 Beastie Boys Paul’s Boutique (1989)

501186805This was a kaleidoscope of hip hop! They were all over the place with this offering. This is a hot record! Tons of sampling that you don’t hear in this day and age was used everywhere on this one. Many hints that their punk roots were emerging as well. Now a lot of records came out in the 80’s. LOTS! But I find this one to be the most creative and controversial too. Nowadays their are so many copyrights and such when it comes to “borrowing and/or sampling other artists music. Beck does it now especially on his Odelay album. BUT….Mike D and the gang really were the masters of this turf. They matured since “Fight For Your Right To Party!” As they themselves put it in a track from Paul’s Boutique……”The Sounds of Science”: “expanding the horizons, expanding our parameters.”  CHECK IT OUT….It’s a masterpiece!!!!
